Doha: The College of Public Policy at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of the Qatar Foundation (QF), has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the School of Public Policy of the University of Maryland, USA, formalizing their cooperation in developing joint projects in areas of mutual interest.
The agreement was signed by the HBKU, represented by Dr. Leslie A. Pal, founding dean of the College of Public Policy (CPP), and Dr. Anis Ben Brik, Associate Professor and Founding Director of the Social Policy Program, Official and Evaluation Research (PROSPER) and University of Maryland (UMD), represented by Senior VP and Provost Mary Ann Rankin, Dean of the UMD School of Public Policy, Robert C. Orr , and Professor Douglas Besharov.
In line with their shared commitment to international scientific and cultural exchange, the MoU paves the way for the two universities to work together on projects that promote the global exchange of scientific knowledge and cultural traditions. Specifically, the agreement provides that CPP and the University of Maryland, a pre-eminent public research university, will discuss and investigate cooperation in the development and implementation of public policy related to social policy and program evaluation.
UMD School of Public Policy ranks in the top 25 graduate schools in public policy in the United States and in the 10% of those schools in the nation. The school’s five institutes are globally recognized leaders in areas such as global sustainability.
As part of the MoU, the CPP Program for Social Policy and Evaluation Research (PROSPER) and the UMD School of Public Policy will work together on joint research activities, publications and library exchanges and organize forums for the exchange of knowledge and experience. Other options for getting involved include participating in seminars, conferences or workshops organized by the respective institutions that deal with topics of mutual interest.
Dr. Pal said on behalf of HBKU, “The agreement will open doors for students and faculties to pursue forward-looking research priorities in a global context. I am sure we share the same confidence that this mutual exchange of knowledge and experience will add to our range of specializations as we train future policy-making leaders and fulfill our commitment to support effective policy development and implementation in Qatar. “
Dr. Ben Brik, Founding Director of PROSPER said, “Building on the recent collaboration between PROSPER of CPP and the UMD School of Public Policy, the MoU provides a solid foundation for HBKU to build a long-term relationship with the University of Maryland that seeks to do To achieve the mission of our two universities in all areas. “
